What was meant to be a five day visit turned into a four month stay in a place I now consider my second home abroad. I had originally planned a four week backpacking trip through the Balkans at the end of summer 2024, but the universe (as it often does :) ) had other plans.
I celebrated my 27th birthday boating around the “Maldives of Europe” (Ksamil), eating byreks, tres leches, and freddo cappuccinos, and swimming in the healing waters of the Adriatic. I kept extending my stay until one day I realized I had never felt so at home anywhere else. My body and mind were craving rest and safety, and I found both here.
Along the way, I met some of the most incredible people I’ve ever crossed paths with. From locals to transplants, expats to fellow travelers, my time in Albania was nothing short of life-changing. I am grateful to have left with a new perspective, a new home, and a new best friend.
